New mobile payment solutions: Cooperation between Gavitec AG and REA Card GmbH

Gavitec AG - mobile digit, specialist for the development and production of flexible and easy to operate barcode readers, and REA Card GmbH, market leader in the supply of cashless payment systems, have joined forces to cooperate in the future and jointly develop and market mobile point-of-sales payment solutions.

Targets of the cooperation
The partnership between Gavitec AG - mobile digit and the two subsidiaries of REA Systeme GmbH – REA Card GmbH and FunkTicket AG – pursues the target of bundling the complementary competences and products of the three companies in order to enable safe and simple payments in the retail industry via mobile phones. Plans are also in place to develop a hybrid system which will combine Gavitec scanners with REA terminals into a single payment system.

Safe payment systems
Customers and businesses alike will benefit from the simplicity and speed of mobile phone based payments enabled by the integration of Gavitec code reading technology into the payment systems of REA at the tills of specialist retailers, supermarkets, in restaurants, at service stations or in hotels. The innovative scanners from Gavitec AG – mobile digit can read barcodes and 2D codes (e.g. Data Matrix) which are sent in simple picture messages (SMS, EMS or Nokia Pictures) from the display of any mobile phone.

Further mobile services on offer
New services like bonus schemes and customer loyalty schemes can also be implemented with the aid of the Gavitec technology. Mobile coupons can be read and validated, and dormant coupons can be reactivated. Additional benefits: Customer response is cost-effective to measure and evaluate. Enriched with an innovative means of payment, mobile phones can therefore take over the role of a wallet and also act as a convenient virtual customer card.
